Michael Shewmaker is an abstract sculptor working in stainless steel, aluminum and bronze. His mirror polished stainless steel sculptures have been purchased for exhibit by the Downtown Partnership of Colorado Springs, the Simpsonville Art Foundation of Simpsonville, SC and the Annmarie Sculpture Garden of Dowell, MD. Although decidedly abstract to be Shewmaker’s works have a definite feel of the living with a muscular structure and a vivacious energy. The polished surfaces reflect the character of their surroundings and provided a liquid and mercurial appearance. His lifelong love of public sculpture has led him to pursue commissions for his work wherever possibilities arise. Working from his home and studio on the Big Island of Hawaii, Michael has carved out a reputation throughout the U.S. participating in long-term sculpture exhibitions in many different states. Originally from Illinois, he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art from Southern Illinois University and did post graduate work in Art History.
